Glasgow City Mission Report From Women’s Group

Glasgow City Mission – Child and Family

The Woman’s Group were delighted to welcome Margaret from the Glasgow City Mission Child and Family Centre, who provided us with an overview of the Christ focused work of the centre. The following information from the GCM website provides an excellent summary of Margaret’s contribution.

The Child and Family Centre have been working with children in Govan since 1986 and is knitted into local people’s lives. The Centre provides Parent and Toddler Groups, All Age Groups, family support classes and advice for parents, plus after school clubs and holiday clubs. The aim is to break the cycle of poverty and give the children the best possible start in life. To achieve this, the Centre provides a safe, educational and nourishing environment where the children can have fun and are encouraged in their development.

Parents are also equipped with skills and confidence – parenting is not always easy! Relationships within the family and Centre are key. These are built during weekly coffee mornings, parenting groups, healthy eating and exercise groups and daily conversations. –

Some comments from those attending –

“Thank you for another excellent meeting last night!

Margaret’s report of what she and her fellow workers do was humbling. Four women! “The labourers are few” as St Matthew said!”

“That was a great meeting – I learned a lot!”
